New data released by the Mexican
government shows that the country welcomed more than 45 million
international tourists in 2024, the largest total recorded since 2019.
According to Mexico
News Daily, Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi)
revealed that 45.04 million international travelers entered Mexico in 2024,
marking a 7.4 percent increase from the almost 41.95 million visitors in 2023.
Tourism revenue in 2024 was also six percent higher than the
previous year.
Travel-related businesses attracted around US $30.25 billion
in 2024, but the average spending of international tourists decreased slightly by
around 1.4 percent. In addition, the number of visitors arriving by air routes
increased slightly last year compared to 2023.
Cruise arrivals increased by over 10 percent, with over
10.15 million visitors arriving by ship. The industry generated an estimated
$849 million, but officials noted that cruise passengers will need to pay an
immigration fee of $42 when visiting Mexican ports in 2025.
Mexico also finished 2024 strong, reporting that almost 4.8
million international tourists entered the country in December. Of that total,
around 79.8 percent arrived via commercial airline, while an estimated 1.6
million arrived via car or on foot.
