As if there aren’t enough reasons to go to Las Vegas,
here’s one more.
The Mirage Hotel and Casino will close on July 17, but first, due to Nevada state gaming law, it must pay out more than $1 million in slot and table game winnings.
Actually, it was $1.6 million, which started on July 9.
It’s not a sweepstakes or a contest; you legitimately
have to play either the slots or a table game. But the cash prizes are real and
mandated by the state. Somebody has to win, so it might as well be you.
Tourists are beginning to flock to the hotel – not only to say goodbye to the
iconic property but to try their hand at gambling, knowing that the Mirage has
to pay out.
Why?
It’s all part of a progressive package being conducted by
the hotel. The Nevada Gaming Control Board stipulates that all progressive
winnings must be paid out before a casino closes for good. Players
have a chance to win $1.2 million in slot machine prizes and $400,000 at table
games.
All players are eligible to enter, but you must be 21. A cash prize winner will be drawn every hour until July 13 and again on July 16. Even better, you can win more than once. Even better still -- the progressive package is separate from regular gaming. So you can put down some money on black. Or red. Or even green.
The Mirage has been a part of Vegas for 35 years, a symbol of the city's vibrant and ever-changing landscape. As it prepares to close its doors, it leaves behind a legacy of entertainment and excitement.
It will add 600 more rooms and become a Hard Rock property when it re-opens in 2027, marking the beginning of a new chapter in its storied history.
"We
look forward to the beginning of an exciting journey into a new era as Hard
Rock Las Vegas will ignite the Strip with entertainment, innovation and
world-class hospitality,” according to a social media post by The Mirage.
