Honolulu-based Outrigger Hotels and Resorts continues to shuffle up its portfolio with the recent addition of Honua Kai Resort & Spa's on-site resort rental program interests from affiliates of Alterra Mountain Company.
Honua Kai is a 38-acre oceanfront condo resort located on Maui's Ka`anapali North Beach - offering luxurious studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom suites.
The resort is also expanding with a build-out of 72 luxury townhomes, scheduled for completion in 2020. All units previously managed by Alterra Mountain Company will operate under Hawaii Vacation Condos by Outrigger, effective immediately.
"Honua Kai Resort & Spa is an oceanfront gem and it has been an honor to be part of its success, said Rusty Gregory, CEO of Alterra Mountain Company, in a written release. "While we have decided to refocus our overall business efforts elsewhere, we're certain that Outrigger will continue to manage the property with the care and attention it deserves."
Honua Kai Resort & Spa Honua Kai Resort & Spa has 628 rooms. The Hokulani building houses 318 guest suites, the Aina Gourmet Market, a pool and a concierge desk. The Konea building has 310 guest suites, a fitness center, and two pools. Duke's Beach House is located oceanfront, and the pool and the beach activities operate poolside.
The news comes on the heels of the June 14 announcement that Singha Estate Public Company Limited, a property development company in Thailand, acquired six international resort properties from Outrigger.
As a part of that $310 million acquisition, Outrigger will continue to manage the six properties, all located outside of Hawaii, which include Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort and Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort in Thailand, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and Castaway Island in Fiji, Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort in Mauritius, and Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort in the Maldives.
In other Outrigger news, the company had a soft opening in early February for Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger. A grand opening is expected later this year, but an exact date has yet to be announced, according to an Outrigger spokesperson.
Situated steps from Waikiki Beach and adjacent to the International Market Place, Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger is home to some of Hawaii's dining hotspots, including the Maui Brewing Co. and Hawaiian Aroma Caffe.
Outrigger currently operates and/or has in development 37 properties with roughly 6,500 rooms
