New York State is a great place to vacation, from New York City to the upstate farms and every place in between.
If you’re looking for a quaint city to spend your summers, look no further than Saratoga Springs, located just south of Lake George and home to the exciting Saratoga Race Course.
Travel agent Mandy Stark of Mickey Travels LLC, who lives close to Saratoga Springs and visits often, has these tips for your trip:
And They’re Off!
“From the end of July through Labor Day, you can take in an exciting day at the Saratoga Race Course,” she said. “Enjoy traditional seating with clubhouse admission and maybe make a reservation at the Turf Terrace for a table with a view. For a different experience, arrive when the gates open with your cooler packed and claim your picnic table for the day.”
Visit Broadway
New York City isn’t the only area in New York that has a Broadway worth walking.
“Visit Broadway, the main street in Saratoga Springs, for an intriguing mix of shopping, dining and nightlife,” said Stark.
“Go for an evening stroll and enjoy the beautiful upstate New York summer weather. Stop in a few shops lining the way. Take in dinner at one of many restaurants with outdoor seating and watch the evening go by. After dinner, stroll down to Saratoga Gelato to sample one of the local, family-owned business’s 24 handcrafted flavors.”

Place Your Bets
If you’re into a little gambling action now and then, Stark recommends staying at the Saratoga Casino Hotel where you can try your hand at more than 1,700 slots and electronic table games while enjoying live racing.
“You can also take in dinner at Morton’s Steakhouse and experience top live entertainment at Vapor Night Club.
Visit the Saratoga Spa State Park
“Take in a picnic at the state park, which is a National Historic Landmark and view the amazing architecture of the buildings in the park while enjoying a leisurely walk throughout the extensive grounds,” said Stark.
“The Park is also home to the National Museum of Dance, Saratoga Auto Museum, Roosevelt Baths and Spa and the Gideon Putnam Resort.”

Take in a Show
“Throughout the summer, you can take in a performance at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and enjoy the orchestra, ballet, a jazz festival or see one of today’s top performers in concert,” said Stark. “Purchase lawn seats for a more casual experience. More traditional seating is also available inside the amphitheater.”
Keep in mind that the racing schedule makes Saratoga a popular vacation spot in the summer and lodging can be difficult to find at peak racing times.
The Adelphi Hotel in Saratoga Springs will reopen sometime this summer after undergoing a multi-million-dollar renovation on the building that dates back to 1877.
Highlights of the renovation include the revival of The Adelphi’s legendary hotel bar, which will be named Morrissey’s after well-known Saratoga resident John Morrissey. There will be a new restaurant, called The Blue Hen, a new grand ballroom that can accommodate up to 250 guests and 32 luxurious and oversized guest rooms and suites.
The Adelphi Hotel is located in the heart of Downtown Saratoga Springs at 365 Broadway. For more information, please visit adelphi-hospitality.com.
When you arrive in Saratoga Springs, make sure to stop at the Visitors Center at 297 Broadway or visit their website at saratogaspringsvisitorcenter.com.
