Lexington, Ky. has long billed itself as the Horse Capital of the World, and Fall racing at the historic Keeneland track is kicking off this weekend. VisitLEX is capitalizing on the opportunity with an AI-meets-equine promotion called Neigh-I , where travelers can ask questions of Oliver, a 17-year-old Paint/Shire from the Kentucky Horse Park’s Mounted Police Unit. Oliver will then respond with what VisitLEX is calling his “horse instinct.”
Travelers answer a few quick questions online, and Oliver makes choices by picking treats like carrots, apples, peppermints, and horse cookies, each of which is tied to a local experience.
VisitLEX says this is, “an advanced equine alternative to unreliable artificial intelligence. Naturally coded with a vast understanding of the Bluegrass, Neigh-I consults an evolving database and adapts in real time to build custom travel itineraries for your visit to Lexington.”
The website, at visitlex.com/neigh-i/#plan, also includes a database of local favorites, for travelers who don’t want to try the ask-a-horse route. Some of what’s listed includes restaurants (from coffee shops to ice cream to fine dining), drinks and nightclubs (with a focus on bourbon), and unique local experiences—such as historic homes, live music events, horse farm tours, local distilleries, and more.
After answering questions, travelers can expect a fully customized, three-day Lexington itinerary from Oliver’s equine mind.
VisitLEX is no stranger to unique tourism campaigns. In 2024, the city launched an interstellar tourism campaign called, “Hey, Aliens! Look at Lexington.”
