To pay homage to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the Flight 93 National Memorial Visitor's Center officially opened Thursday.
The memorial and visitors center pay respect to those who passed away on United Airlines Flight 93 near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 11, 2001. After the plane was hijacked, passengers charged the cockpit and stopped the terrorists' plans to attack a major American landmark.
Unfortunately, the plane crashed in a field, killing all 44 passengers and crew on board.
To celebrate the lives of those killed that day and their ultimate sacrifice to protect other Americans, the Flight 93 National Memorial Visitor's Center that was built over the last five years thanks to private donations and support from the government.

The site will act as both a museum and a memorial. In the museum portion of the park, visitors will be able to view photos, video, artifacts, interactive displays and stories about Flight 93 and the people who passed away during the incident.
Admission to the memorial is free and it will be open every day each year, except for Christmas and New Year's Day.
