Winter Storm Linus is currently snarling travel in the Midwest, and will soon unleash a wintry mess in the Northeast as well. A blizzard warning has been issued for the Chicago metro area, and The National Weather Service predicts snow accumulations of 18 inches wind gusts up to 35 mph for today and into Monday. CNN meteorologist Derek Van Dam stated that the storm "will pivot over the Windy City, causing several hours of heavy snow."
Flightaware.com shows over 2,000 U.S. flight cancellations, the vast majority in Chicago.
Parts of Iowa, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin will see up to a foot of snow, and there are winter storm warnings in place from eastern Nebraska and South Dakota, all the way to New Hampshire and Maine.
"Chicago isn't the only area of concern going forward," Van Dam added. "This storm has its eyes set on the Northeast, where last week's blizzard has already crippled many New England cities."
