Fans of the hit show Sons of Anarchy will welcome the bittersweet glow of the seventh season's premiere episode, signaling an end to a triumphant run. Soon the iconic streets of Charming will be swept away, only to be enjoyed with reruns or trips to the real-life town that currently houses the cast and crew.
The wait is finally over on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 10/9c when FX premieres the beginning of the end for Charming's most entrenched motorcycle club.
Here is the trailer to what looks like a scintillating sendoff:
While fans don't have a real town to pay homage to when the show runs its course, they can still relive some of the sights seen over seven glorious seasons.
Charming, California:
Fans are well versed as to where Charming is supposed to be based, tucked ever so pleasantly in Northern California. It's presumably close enough to wreak havoc in Oakland and mere hours-or minutes thanks to commercial breaks-away from Nevada.
Wikipedia helps out on some of the specifics touted in the show, including the town's sign, which boasts a population of 14,679. As we know, that's in the Goldilocks area that is just right for motorcycle mayhem.
The entry gives you a very real sense of where the fictional town is supposed to be based:
"Charming covers 22.8 square miles (59 km2) and is located in San Joaquin County, California, in the upper part of the metro triangle, which is bounded by the Bay Area, Stockton, and Sacramento. Show writer Kurt Sutter has stated that he envisions the town as being located between Lodi and Stockton, which would place it near the real-life Census-designated place of Morada, California. At other times in the show, Charming is said to be 50 miles (80 km) from both Oakland and San Jose, and about 30 miles (50 km) from both Stockton and Lodi."
Now some fans, like this Reddit user, have headed on out like Indiana Jones to unearth a legendary and mythical place. Unfortunately, you just won't track it down. You can, however, find the locations in which the series is actually filmed.
Tujunga, California:
Fans living or merely visiting Southern California are used to seeing movie and television locations, so it is no surprise a good portion of the show is shot in and around quaint Tujunga (Calif.).
Now the majority of interior shots and those at the repair shop are filmed at the show's studio location, which remains tucked away in Hollywood. On Location Vacations covers the three main destinations that make up a majority of the show, including addresses for those so inclined.
But producers make use of a wide SoCal net, including destinations as far south as Wilmington, which this YouTube video shows:
The Hollywood Reporter shows off a photogenic landscape with a couple of cast members during a February photo shoot:
The Los Angeles Times' Richard Verrier takes a close look at the production back in 2011; illustrating how expansive the show's reach is into the Los Angeles area.
Verrier writes, "Since its 2008 debut, Sons of Anarchy, an edgy, one-hour drama about a gang of motorcycle outlaws, has become a staple of local TV production. The show shoots in all corners of L.A. County, from Simi Valley to the arts district in downtown Los Angeles."
According to the report, the L.A. area tried its hand at acting, playing Belfast, Northern Ireland when the show called for the transformation.
Now if you want to get on out there and walk the walk, the blog Filming.90210locations.info was the most extensive and well-researched list we could find out there.
You begin to see the Los Angeles area is as diverse and versatile as the cast of characters depicted in the show.
Fans of Sons of Anarchy may one day take seven seasons of amazing television and use it as the impetus for a wondrous and breathtaking romp around Charming, which as we now know is far bigger than it lets on.
