Georgia is an Apparent 'Walking Dead' Mecca for Zombie Fans

Countless dead zombies and general national mayhem seem to be fantastic for local tourism, because Georgia must love the influx of Walking Dead fans.

CNN's Marnie Hunter profiled the many ways fans of the fictional zombie show can immerse themselves in walker lore.

Hunter highlights Atlanta Movie Tours, a company that specializes in bringing movie and television fans to familiar locations that feature in popular works.

For Walking Dead fanatics, the Big Zombie Tour seems to be a hit. The website offers two trips, each offering a distinct experience based on the AMC show.

Each will cost $65 plus a three-dollar ticketing fee charge, which gets you, in the case of Tour Part I, a visit to the hospital made famous by the opening of the show and a look where the "Vatos" lived early in the program.

Tour 2 actually departs from Senoia (Ga.), which fans will know a great deal better as the paradise amid anarchy known as Woodbury.

Hunter writes, "Check-in for tours is centered at the Woodbury Shoppe, a recently relocated and expanded 'Walking Dead' emporium packed with T-shirts, messenger bags, calendars, belts and more."

Although, this much fun can cost you as Hunter continues, "Location guides for seasons one through four are available for $25, or visitors can book more pinpointed Coweta Film Tours at the shop for about $15."

The company offered a lighthearted look at the various tours in the following video:

Just as echoed in the video, Hunter explains that there has been a great deal more production occurring in the state: "A 2008 tax credit of up to 30% for productions of $500,000 or more has spawned hordes of film crews." To that end, Georgia boasted a whopping 150 productions for this fiscal year.

Walking Dead fans have a wide swath of Georgian land to cover if they want to see filming locations. One of the better guides we have found for those disinterested in tour groups is WalkingDeadLocations.com.

A location can be found by simply remembering what episode it appeared and locating it on the website's nifty index.

For example, if you want to know where Michonne laid waste to some zombies in a general store, the website has a detailed breakdown of the fictional Case General Store. The building is said to now house the Funky Shack Art Studio, which is located in Haralson (Ga.) on Main Street.

Now there are some places that fans just have to enjoy on TV, like Herschel's house that served as a wonderful sanctuary until some strangers moved in. Hunter warns that this particular location remains private and, "Its occupants apparently regret their house's role in the show and do not welcome visitors."

The prison will also be left to re-runs on television, as it was merely a set built and recently torn down at Atlanta's Raleigh Studios.

Thankfully, YouTube user TheRCplaneguy shows off three of the more iconic locations with this drone-eye view video:

Whether with a tour group or gallivanting on your own, Internet guide in hand, Atlanta's surrounding area is an apparent haven for Walking Dead fans. It's the kind of place that attracts the nerd within us all.

The good news is that zombie bites are the stuff of fiction, we hope.
