Spas are the best.
Not only are they fun during the actual visit, but the healing treatments will have benefits long after you go home. Spas and hammams are also an intriguing way to obtain a glimpse of unique healing rituals around the world.
The Guardian recently named Europe's top 10 affordable spas, identifying offerings from Berlin to Budapest. Here are some that made the list:
Liquidrom, Berlin
Located in Berlin's Kreuzberg neighborhood, Liquidrom is said to offer a chic-luxury experience without a big price-tag. The big draw here is the salt-water pool in the domed-roof room. The serene setting includes piped-in music that encourages relaxation. Liquidrom also includes saunas, steam rooms, and an outdoor pool. The cost for access is about $23 per for two hours' sauna and thermal bath.
Gellert Baths, Budapest
Budapest is known for its bath culture. One of the top choices here, says the Guardian, is Gellert Baths. Housed in a stunning art nouveau mansion, there's a variety of pools that are rich in minerals sourced from hills behind the building. The adult entrance fee is about $17.
Sauna Hermanni, Helsinki
A public sauna in the capital of Finland, Sauna Hermanni allows you to join the routines of locals, who like to visit on a weekly basis. The saunas here are classic wood-paneled offerings and the entire place exudes a relaxing atmosphere. The cost is about $12 per adult.
Kilic Ali Pasa Hamami, Istanbul
Istanbul is another location known for its spas. One of the most noteworthy is Kilic Ali Pasa Hanami. The building was constructed during the 16th century and reopened in 2012 after years of restorations. Described as a grand and intricate building, this facility offers the classic hammam bathing ritual, as well as massages. Prices start at $42.
Lazne nalodi, Prague
A truly unique, local experience, Lazne nalodiis a sauna on a boat. The boat is docked at the Náplavka embankment and accommodates 16 people. While sweating it out here, you will have views of Prague castle. And when you're done heating up, jump into the Vlatva river to cool off. One of the most inexpensive spa choices on the list, entrance costs less than $3.
