August is Black Business Month, a time to honor and celebrate the exceptional contributions of black entrepreneurs in various industries.

As we commemorate Black Business Month, it's time to shine a spotlight on the remarkable black entrepreneurs who have established their mark in the hospitality industry.

From opulent hotels and exceptional tour operators to delightful restaurants, these entrepreneurs and their businesses are setting new standards in the industry while leaving a lasting impression on diverse audiences worldwide.

Domestic Retreats

La Maison in Midtown, Houston, TX: Step into your oasis away from the city bustle at La Maison in Midtown. This bed and breakfast establishment is located in the city center, giving guests easy access to explore with a haven to return to at the end of their day. There are over 30,000 bed and breakfast establishments in the US, however only 1% of them are black owned. Jenesis House, Arizona: Jenesis Laforcarde is the visionary behind the Jenesis House, the first black-woman owned resort in Arizona. The Jenesis House is an adult-only wellness resort that caters to guests that are looking for a luxurious self-care experience. The resort features 13 cabin studios that include a soaking tub, meditation garden, and living moss wall to create a natural air filter. The resort includes a full service spa that provides holistic healing treatments. Guests who are looking for the ultimate personal pamper session need to look no further than the Jenesis House.

Urban Cowboy, Nashville, TN: Jersey Banks is the co-creator of Urban Cowboy and has a remarkable story as this concept was created during the pandemic. Urban Cowboy is a boutique motel property with the the motto of arrive as strangers, leave as friends. Banks has created an all-female management team to show her dedication in creating a progressive brand and workplace. Urban Cowboy is an adult-only (21+) property that is perfect for travelers to Nashville who would like a quiet place to rest after exploring Music City.

Kruger Shalati, Skukuza South Africa: This property was named as one of the most innovative openings during the pandemic. Kruger Shalati is a modern hotel that was transformed from a historic train. Zaina Lodge, Mole National Park, Ghana

This property is West Africa’s first luxury safari lodge. The owner's goal with their glamping site is to prioritize sustainability, ethical practices, and guest comfort. Each chalet on property at the lodge has wi-fi, AC, and the comforts of your own home. Guests here can bird watch and see elephants regularly. Safaris can be booked along with the stay giving guests everything they need for an exciting visit to Ghana.
