The Mexican
Caribbean has always strived to set the standard for all-inclusive luxury,
but the resorts arriving and reopening in 2025 and 2026 represent something
more intentional than the typical seasonal refresh. From Cancun's
Hotel Zone to the lush corridor of the Riviera
Maya, established properties are undergoing comprehensive transformations
that go well beyond updated furnishings. New culinary concepts, reimagined
Preferred Club experiences, and complete architectural overhauls are reshaping
what travelers can expect when they visit. Whether reopening after years of
planning or relaunching under an entirely new identity, these properties share
a common goal: to meet a more sophisticated traveler at an elevated level. Here
is a look at the resorts leading the charge right now.
Secrets Playa Mujeres
Golf & Spa Resort
Secrets Playa Mujeres officially reopened
in January 2026 following an extensive renovation that touched nearly every
corner of the resort. The refresh goes far beyond surface updates, with all 424
guestrooms fully reimagined in a contemporary coastal design, creating a
lighter and more elevated feel throughout the property.
One of the most notable enhancements is
the expansion of the Preferred Club experience. A newly constructed two-story
Preferred Club building features a dedicated check-in lounge on the first floor
and an exclusive ocean-view restaurant on the second. Preferred guests also
enjoy access to a new private beach club and an exclusive pool, adding
meaningful layers of privacy and relaxation.
Public spaces were thoughtfully
redesigned to improve flow and the arrival experience. The Rendezvous lobby bar
was relocated to the former main lobby, and the check-in area was moved closer
to guest rooms for added convenience. The spa and gym have both been fully
renovated, including enhanced spa features. Dining and entertainment also
received significant attention. Desires Night Club and Coco Cafe were
redesigned with refreshed, dynamic atmospheres. Portofino was elevated with
upgraded Italian offerings, and Bordeaux was transformed into an
Amazonian-inspired dining experience featuring a chef's table. The result is a
resort that feels more refined and cohesive, with upgrades that enhance both
aesthetics and functionality. Guests also enjoy complimentary access to the
neighboring Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort, offering additional
culinary and experiential adventures.

Secrets Mirabel Cancun
Resort & Spa
Secrets Mirabel Cancun Resort & Spa
represents a significant addition to Cancun's adults-only luxury landscape.
Officially opened in November 2025 after being closed since 2023 (as Now
Emerald), the resort introduces a modern design concept and an elevated
amenities package within Cancun's Hotel Zone. The resort features 487
guestrooms and suites, including the construction of one new tower for
Preferred Club guests, with most rooms offering ocean views or oceanfront
views.
The resort offers guests a comprehensive
dining program featuring eight restaurants serving everything from elevated
French and Mediterranean cuisine to bold Asian flavors, as well as a premier
steakhouse, all without reservations. Six stylish bars and lounges, including a
swim-up bar, sushi bar, and nightly music lounge, round out the food and
beverage experience. One restaurant to note is the Bluewater Grill, which
houses a mezcal cellar, a welcome nod to Mexican culture for guests who
appreciate artisan spirits. For something more intimate, guests can opt to dine
under the stars by the sea or enjoy a curated meal in the exclusive wine or
agave cellars, ideal for a romantic evening (for an additional charge).
The resort features six pools in total,
including three on the main pool deck. The Preferred Club elevates the
experience with upgraded accommodations, including higher guest room ceilings,
two exclusive pools, an oceanfront hot tub, and an infinity pool closest to the
beach. The Sky Bar enhances the Preferred Club experience with a rooftop
setting overlooking the lagoon and offering stunning sunset views. The Sky Bar
has pod seating areas with fire pits, a bar with snacks, and hours that extend
to 11 pm, making it one of the property's most memorable spaces.
Cultural immersion is woven throughout
the guest experience. An agave journey guides guests through the history,
cultivation, and tasting of premium tequilas and mezcals led by expert
connoisseurs, while Mexican cultural lessons offer a deeper look at local
customs, traditions, and history.
The Secrets Spa, which will open at a
later date, will offer traditional Mayan treatments, drawing on ancient
rituals, natural ingredients, and healing techniques rooted in generations of
practice.
The resort also takes its environmental
responsibility seriously, with initiatives including soap recycling, plastic
bottle cap collection, supporting local health programs, community-driven
recycling, and a commitment to locally sourced ingredients and regional art
throughout the property.
While Mirabel is considered a new opening
rather than a renovation of an existing Secrets property, its debut reflects
the broader evolution happening in Cancun's luxury all-inclusive market. Its
design aesthetic and expanded amenities align with the newer generation of
high-investment resorts reshaping expectations in the destination.

Grand Sunset Princess
Grand Sunset Princess officially reopened
on November 1, 2025, ahead of its scheduled December reopening, following its
first comprehensive renovation since originally opening in 2007. The
transformation was substantial, modernizing guestrooms, refreshing public
areas, and introducing new amenities designed to broaden its appeal.
A total of 674 rooms were completely
renovated across five categories. Among the most impressive additions are the
Laguna Villa Suites, which stand out as one of the most stunning room
categories available at any all-inclusive resort. These villas feature
beautifully designed interiors, outdoor showers, and a gorgeous soaking tub,
delivering a level of elegance that is sure to impress. All restaurants were
renovated, and the grand courtyard lobby retains its original grandeur while
benefiting from the surrounding upgrades.
The reopening also introduced a wider
culinary variety, including a Brazilian rodizio steakhouse and an Asian concept
featuring teppanyaki, wok, and Nikkei cuisines. A brand new waterpark adds to
the resort's family-friendly appeal and is a genuine highlight of the
renovation. Grand Sunset Princess is now a compelling, elevated option,
particularly for families. It is worth noting that the sister property, Grand
Riviera Princess, is currently undergoing renovations, with completion expected
in April or May 2026.

Grand Palladium Select
White Sand
Grand Palladium Select White Sand marks a
strategic refresh and relaunch within Palladium Hotel Group's Select
Collection. Backed by an approximate $6 million investment, the property
officially debuted under its new identity on January 1, 2026, following a
phased renovation.
The relaunched property offers 425
renovated rooms. The Select Collection represents a more premium tier within
the Grand Palladium portfolio, and White Sand joins Grand Palladium Select
Costa Mujeres in Cancun as part of that growing collection. The property sits
within a rich complex that includes Grand Palladium Kantenah Resort & Spa,
Grand Palladium Colonial Resort & Spa, and TRS Yucatan Hotel, giving guests
access to an expansive range of amenities. The repositioning reflects
Palladium's continued investment in the Riviera Maya and its commitment to
modernizing key properties within its portfolio.

Hyatt Zilara Cancun
Hyatt Zilara Cancun suspended operations
on April 1, 2025, to undergo a full-property renovation, with the most current
projected reopening date set for May 1, 2026. The confirmed full-property
renovation signals a comprehensive transformation rather than incremental
upgrades, with plans to blend the resort's classic hacienda character with
updated modern amenities. The extended closure period underscores the scale of
the project and the intent to deliver a significantly refreshed adults-only
experience.
As one of Cancun's long-standing popular
adults-only resorts, Hyatt Zilara's renovation reflects the broader trend of
established properties investing in complete reinvention to remain competitive
in an increasingly elevated market. Clients interested in this property should
check the resort’s website for the most up-to-date reopening timeline, as dates
have shifted during the renovation.

The pace of reinvestment
across the Mexican Caribbean region shows no signs of slowing down. What these
renovations signal collectively is that the region is no longer simply
competing on value. It is competing on experience, design, and the kind of elevated,
all-inclusive product that sophisticated travelers now expect. For travelers
who have visited these properties before, now is a compelling time to return.
For those guests discovering the destination for the first time, the timing
could not be better.
