Americans are heading across the Atlantic in greater numbers this summer, with new data indicating a 10 percent rise in U.S. travel to Europe compared to last year.
According to the 2025 Top Summer European Destinations Report released by Allianz Partners USA, this marks the fourth consecutive year of growth in European summer travel from the United States. Leading the pack once again are perennial favorites like London, Paris and Dublin, which took the top three spots among U.S. vacationers.
“Summer is often a time to check off bucket list trips, so it's no surprise that European travel continues to rise for U.S. travelers,” said Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA.
Lisbon, Portugal, has rejoined the ranks of the top 10 European summer destinations, claiming the #9 spot and replacing Athens, Greece. Most of the lineup remains unchanged from 2024, with Rome, Italy holding steady at #4 and Edinburgh, Scotland securing the #5 position. Rounding out the list are other evergreen favorites, including Reykjavik, Iceland (#6), Barcelona, Spain (#7), Amsterdam, Netherlands (#8), and Nice, France (#10).

Durazo also emphasized the importance of planning for the unexpected during international travel. “Traveling far from home and out of the country can sometimes add an extra element of stress to your travel—you may not know where the nearest doctor is or where to replace essential items if your baggage is lost or delayed. Travel insurance can help alleviate some of the worry associated with transcontinental travel by protecting against covered losses resulting from trip cancellations, interruptions, delays and medical emergencies,” he said.
The insurer, which provides travel protection through major airlines, travel agencies, cruise lines, hotel companies and directly to consumers, has seen steady demand from travelers preparing for their once-in-a-lifetime trips abroad.
