As the global
phenomenon known as Taylor
Swift's “The Eras Tour" approaches its conclusion host cities across
North America are experiencing an extraordinary surge in demand for guest accommodations.
The final leg, which includes stops in Miami,
New
Orleans, Indianapolis, Toronto and Vancouver, has sparked an overwhelming
increase in bookings (and prices) for both Airbnb rentals and hotel rooms, with
fans eager to witness the grand conclusion of the pop star's record-breaking concert
tour.
Airbnb has
reported astronomical spikes in search activity for cities where Swift is set
to perform. Indianapolis, which will host the show from November 1 to 3, has
seen user searches rise by more than 1,400 percent. Similarly, Vancouver, which
will host the final performances of "The Eras Tour" from December 6
to 8, has experienced a 900 percent surge in searches for stays. Even Miami,
which is always a popular destination, has seen a significant increase, with a 200
percent surge in searches for Airbnb listings during Swift's October 18 to 20
concert dates.
"When she was
in Europe earlier this year, we saw an unprecedented wave of European
travel. When we spoke with guests, it was about the what versus the
where," Airbnb spokesperson Haven Thorn told The Points
Guy. "They didn't care where she was performing in Europe. It could
have been in the furthest town, and they were still booking tickets from the
U.S. to go see her.
Thorn went on to
say, "Now that she's back touring North America, we're seeing a massive
surge in demand for these cities that she's visiting," adding, "They
are also some of the top trending destinations for the remainder of this
year."
And, it’s not just
vacation rentals that are experiencing the effects of “The Eras Tour”. Hotels in
these cities are also feeling the Swift
lift, with occupancy rates soaring and prices reaching unheard-of heights.
In New Orleans, where Swift will perform from October 25 to 27, hotel occupancy
has already hit 80 percent for the first two nights. Availability in the city's
major hotels is becoming scarce, with prices reflecting the skyrocketing
demand.
For instance, a
room at The Ritz-Carlton in downtown New Orleans during the tour dates is going
for an eye-watering $1,732 per night and the Courtyard New Orleans Downtown near
the French Quarter is charging $999, while the JW Marriott is offering a slightly
more "budget-friendly" option at $767 per night.
Vancouver is experiencing
a similar situation. Hotel occupancy for Swift’s final performances is nearing
80 percent, with luxury properties commanding premium rates. For example, the
Hyatt Regency Vancouver is offering rooms at $1,659 per night during the first
two nights of her stop, with somewhat lower rates of about $1,249 available on
the final night.
Even mid-range options like the Holiday Inn & Suites
Vancouver Downtown are seeing prices soar, with rooms starting at over $1,000
per night, and the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver charging $1,434. At
these IHG-owned
hotel properties, rates also relax on the last night of the tour, falling to $1,013
at the Holiday Inn & Suites Vancouver Downtown and $732 at the Holiday Inn
& Suites North Vancouver.
