Americans are seeking out a new attraction in Europe away from the historical sites and beaches this summer: Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour, according to a new U.S. Travel Association blog post.
While her American leg of the tour saw 4.3 million attendees regularly traveling outside their home cities to see her, and often spending four-digits on tickets, the tour had a massive economic impact everywhere it stopped, to the point where world leaders wrote her letters asking to have their countries included in her tour.
It’s expected to have the same impact in Europe, but the U.S. Travel Association predicts Americans will also want to travel across the pond to attend her tour. According to an estimate, nearly a quarter of tickets sold to a recent show in Paris were sold to Americans.
Attendance for Swift’s 51 scheduled performances could generate more in ticket sales than the 3.1 million expected to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics.
U.S. inbound travel has yet to recover to its pre-pandemic level, but U.S. outbound travel, or Americans heading overseas, has recovered completely.
The nation hopes to recover its inbound travel numbers in the next few years, with the World Cup 2026, the semi-quincentennial celebration of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics and more.
