Scotch whisky is one of the top alcoholic beverages on the market and is celebrated internationally by connoisseurs on Scotch Whisky Day every July 27.

Scotch whisky is defined as malt or grain whisky made in Scotland, and it must be made in a manner specified by law. The alcohol must also be aged in oak barrels for at least three years.

Regardless of which distillery tourists choose to visit, a company like CIE Tours International can help you see Scotland and optimize your Scotch Whisky Day.

Glenmorangie Distillery

Glenmorangie distillery in Ross-shire is one of the first places in Scotland travelers must visit. There they produce single malt Scotch whisky, and the facility also boasts the tallest stills in the country.

Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the facility in three different groups, including the original, signet and the heritage tour, all of which involve samplings and tastings.

Glenmorangie also offers a tasting master class under the tutelage of Director of Distilling, Whisky Creation & Whisky Stocks, Dr. Bill Lumsden, who teaches visitors how to drink the booze and exactly how it is made.

Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery

One of the most popular Scotch whisky brands in the world, Dewar's is now owned by Bacardi and promoted as the top-selling blended Scotch in the United States. It has also earned more than 500 medals in international competitions.

While the distillery located in the heart of Aberfeldy wasn't Dewar's first, it marked the global expansion of the brand and is the most well-known facility under the company's umbrella, opening in 1896. It operates several affordable tours that highlight the history of the company and allow tourists to experience the alcohol making process firsthand, including cask tasting tours, a connoisseur tour, a blender's tour and the overall distillery tour.

For travelers heading to Bunnahabhain to witness history by walking through the distillery, the warehouse and the tasting rooms of the facility, there are several different tour options. Not only does the distillery offer the standard tasting tour, but it also offers dram, warehouse tastingand a special manager's tour led by the Distillery Manager.

Aberlour Distillery

Aberlour distillery is located in the heart of Speyside near the Lour and Spey rivers, and the water from natural springs nearby is used in the alcohol making process.

Not only does the Aberlour distillery offer the standard tasting tours, but it also dives deeper into the company's history. With tours dubbed as the "Aberlour Experience" and the "Casks from the Past Tasting," visitors will be fully immersed in the history of the facility built in 1879.
