Families are excited for spring break, with some starting as soon as March 15. CheapOair analyzed the latest spring break travel trends for families this month and found that most are going to Florida, the Caribbean and Europe.
According to their analysis, Florida is dominating among domestic spring break destinations with five cities landing in the top ten spots.
Orlando, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale were in the top three spots for domestic destinations for family spring breakers.
Among the family spring break spots, Los Angeles had the cheapest average roundtrip airfare at $278. Orlando, in the top spot, had an average roundtrip airfare of $337.
Las Vegas, Miami, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver and Honolulu were other notable spring break destinations for families. Honolulu had the most expensive average roundtrip airfare at $751.
In terms of international spring break destinations, families are setting their sights on a mix of Caribbean and European destinations. Cancun, Mexico, was the top family spring break hotspot with an average round trip airfare of $527, which was the most affordable airfare on the list.
Surprisingly enough, families are also heading to Europe, too. London, England, and Paris, France, came in second and third, and Barcelona, Spain, came in seventh.
Other Caribbean destinations that families are visiting this year are San Jose, Costa Rica, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, Grand Cayman Island, Los Cabos Mexico, and Montego Bay, Jamaica.
"With the rise of international low-cost carriers, traveling to a number of major cities in Europe has become very affordable compared to past years," said Tom Spagnola, SVP of Supplier Relations at CheapOair. "In some cases, taking a family trip to England or France in March – the off-season for those destinations – may end up being cheaper than a trip to one of the tropical destinations."
