When you think of summer, the outdoors usually spring to mind.
Longer, warmer days lead to more time spent outside-and who wants to go inside early for dinner?
The truth: no one. That is why so many restaurants around the world put so much energy into designing splashy spaces for al fresco diners.
If you are dreaming of the best places to dine outside this summer, there are a few standouts in the category.
Rosewood guests around the world will be pleased with the resort company's efforts to create stunning outdoor spaces that guests can experience during their stays.
Washington D.C.
The Rosewood Washington, D.C., has reopened its popular Rooftop Bar & Lounge. There, guests can take in views of the Potomac River, the Washington Monument and the Kennedy Center while sipping cocktails or enjoying a relaxing meal.
The bar and restaurant have been freshened up for the season with a new look and feel as well as a new menu that includes seasonal artisan cocktails, wines, rare whiskeys and light and snacks.
What should you try? Melon and cucumber gazpacho, soft shell crab salad and a watermelon salad come highly recommended. June is also National Rose Month, so you may want to pair one of the appetizers with a glass, which comes with $5 off.
London
The Terrace at the Rosewood London also knows a thing or two about al fresco dining. The secluded sanctuary is one of London's best-kept secrets.
Not for long, however: The Terrace is hosting the inaugural pop-up GQ Bar in association with premium gin Tanqueray No. TEN all summer long and through September.
"As the leading luxury men's lifestyle media brand we take food and drink incredibly seriously." said GQ editor-in-chief Dylan Jones.
Cocktails will, of course, be mixed with Tanqueray No. TEN and include GQ Bar's signature cocktail: the GQ Bar Manhattan made up of Bulleit Bourbon, Belsazar White Vermouth, orange soaked barrel-aged Bourbon and vanilla bitters.

California
What could be more Californian than basking in the golden glow of sunset while sipping a craft brew overlooking the Santa Cruz Mountains? Nothing really.
Guests at the Rosewood Sand Hill in the Silicon Valley can do just that on the hotel's panoramic terrace. Visitors can enjoy local beers as well as "sense of place" cocktails.
For a truly California experience, try the Trail House Sour. It's made with the only whiskey distilled west of Kentucky.
