An Underwater Luxury Hotel Experience for the Common Traveler

Perhaps the only thing that could rival a luxury hotel experience is a luxury hotel experience underwater.

Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel Managing Director Tony Webb is apparently determined to transform that dream into a reality.

Webb has received a U.S. patent for an underwater luxury boutique hotel room concept that would cost $3 million. The amount would cover one underwater guestroom accompanied by an elevator and support vessel. If successful, the project would allow guests to sleep roughly 30 feet below the water's surface.

Inside the 18-foot by 12-foot room, guests would have access to a king-sized bed and a refrigerator. In addition to a bathroom, the room would also feature space for a living room and entertainment area.

There's even room service and Wi-Fi.

"Imagine you are in 150 feet of excellent visibility water, now what do you want to do? You can scuba, hookah and snorkel and most importantly enjoy the underwater view with your significant other," Webb told Fox News.

"The aqua pod-type views will constantly astound and entertain our guests with spectacular multi-dimensional vistas of underwater features, aquatic life, and surface light through sweeping, crystal clear acrylic wall and ceiling viewing panels," the project's website states. "The panoramic views of the surrounding environment will be in constant flux as the passing sun and moon cast ever-changing shadows and reflections on the underwater features, and aquatic life moves gracefully around them."

Expanding on the concept, Webb says a complete underwater hotel with 12 rooms would cost $20 million.

While Webb's patented design isn't the first involving underwater accommodations, it is the most affordable concept, with a one-night stay estimated to cost as little as $3,000.

According to Fox News, efforts are currently underway to construct a prototype in Key West, Florida. Once complete, the prototype will be transported to Cuba where it will be tested at a Spanish-owned resort.

Webb said a full working prototype can be completed in just four months.

Other targeted international locations include Indonesia, Hawaii, Bahamas and Dubai, among ohers.
