With the United Nations-designated World Oceans Day falling on
June 8 this year, tourism organizations have opportunities to reflect on their reliance
on our earth’s natural environment and evaluate their contributions to
sustainable travel.
Located amidst the Bahamas’ beautiful blue waters, sunny skies
and idyllic beaches, Atlantis Paradise Island offers travelers a resort long synonymous
with resplendent natural surroundings.
It is the operator’s aim to support the ecosystems of the Bahamas and, by extension, the world at large, says Audrey
Oswell, Atlantis Paradise Island’s president and managing director.
The resort leader spoke recently with TravelPulse to share her
perspective on the significance of World Ocean Day to one of the Bahamas’ signature resort properties.
TP: What initiatives is Atlantis Paradise Island planning
for World Ocean Month?
AO: For World Ocean Day on June 8 and throughout World Ocean
Month, Atlantis will showcase several activations that amplify our mission of
serving as stewards of the environment. We invite guests, visitors, and the
local community to experience and participate in [the resort’s] planned
educational events.
I am delighted that Atlantis will welcome the world-famous and
accomplished Bahamian artist Jamaal Rolle to the resort on June 8. All guests
and visitors are welcome to participate in the experience, and painting skills
are not required!
Jamaal’s creative genius and interactive methods are
mesmerizing, turning a blank art space into captivating, bold, and beautifully
painted scenes of the Bahamas’ marine landscapes and iconic waters. The
completed mural will be showcased at The Coral for all to enjoy and for future
generations.
TP: How do these activities fit with Atlantis’ character as
a Bahamas resort?
AO: The opportunity to engage and entertain through
interactive and transformative experiences is the hallmark of Atlantis Paradise
Island. From enhanced edu-tourism programming at Dolphin Cay to collaborating
with local partners like Ardastra Gardens walking tours to maintaining the
world’s largest open-air marine habitat, Atlantis constantly innovates for our
guests and community.
TP: Atlantis has renovated several parts of the sprawling
property in recent years. What projects are underway and please describe recent
completed changes.
AO: Atlantis invested $80 million in The Royal Towers and
Atlantis Casino renovations, completed late last year, and we introduced
several new dining options. We are planning a complete renovation of the
guestrooms at The Cove and The Cove Pool.
We just launched an exclusive partnership with global toy
company Mattel. The resort’s unique Barbie Bahamas Beach Vacation is the
very first collaboration of its kind in the Caribbean.
It includes Barbie-themed beachside guest rooms, cabanas, a
custom-built interactive walkthrough experience, Barbie activities at Atlantis
Kids Adventure, bespoke retail, and a Barbie-themed café.
