Situated in stunning Banderas Bay of Riviera Nayarit, Mexico, Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort already carried with it a fascinating story. The all-inclusive, adults-only resort, part of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection, was built during the global COVID-19 pandemic, opening its doors for guests in August 2021.

While some resorts were forced to close during this time period, Secrets and family-friendly sister property Dreams opened in phases, following both the hotel chain’s safety protocols and those established by Mexican regional and national authorities.

A recent expansion of the property designed by Sordo Madaleno brought additional changes to the eco-conscious resort providing guests even more enviable luxury options and fascinating experiences.

Resort Accommodations

The 278 all-suite resort offers spectacular views of the golden sands and sapphire waters of Banderas Bay or the picturesque Sierra Madre Mountain range, each with its own furnished balcony or terrace. Even its junior suites sport a roomy 518.4 square feet of living and relaxation space.

Suites vary from two double beds or a king along with a sofa bed in the living area. All offer well-appointed contemporary theme furnishings with marble floors. Bathrooms are spacious with luxury bath amenities. Twice-daily maid service with nightly turn-down service is a welcome touch and suites also include a daily refreshed mini bar and workstation.

Guests wanting to elevate their stay can join the resort’s Preferred Club, bringing with it upgraded suites with premium views, access to an exclusive adults-only lounge, private roof top with an infinity pool and special concierge services which includes butler service.

Preferred Club Bahia Mita Suite Oceanfront suites offer 1458 square-feet of space along with a private soaking tub and solarium and full oceanfront views. Presidential Suites, the highest end accommodations feature 2,570 square feet with a king bed, separate living area, equipped with a home theatre, 40-inch plasma TV and personal bar. Outdoors, there’s a personal plunge pool and patio with a solarium – ideal if you’re entertaining other friends or family on vacation.

Dining at the Resort

One of my favorite all-inclusive resort standouts is one that offers top-notch limitless dining with a myriad of options. And Secrets Bahia Mita delivers in a big way.

Guests of the resort have access to 13 international-inspired dining options at both Secrets and connecting Dreams Bahia Mita properties. These include eight à la carte, one grill, one buffet, a sports bar and two cafés.

It’s important to note however, that Dreams guests cannot access the dining venues or facilities at Secrets due to its adults-only policy.

Those looking for fine dining will love the following venues.

Bordeaux offers dinner guests the best of French cuisine and a variety of wines in a romantic, yet relaxing elegant setting. If you choose to dine in any fine-dining restaurant here, this should be it. It made me feel as though I was in a Paris bistro.

Portofino Italian Restaurant savors the flavors of the Mediterranean with its á la carte Italian selections during the dinner hour. Mezes serves up a variety of Mediterranean dishes, while Himitsu specializes in Pan-Asian cuisine with Hibachi tables. Bluewater Grill Beach Club offers à la carte fine cuts of mouthwatering meat dishes and rotisserie grill specialties.

If you’re looking for some of the best ceviche in Mexico, head to Barracuda, the beach bar offering an impressive variety of dishes that will have you returning for more.

And if you’re a breakfast fan, you don’t want to miss one the impressive internationally themed buffets at Market Café, with five specialty stations that surprise and delight.

Dining reservations are not needed at restaurants here with the exception of the Teppanyaki experience at Himitsu.

Activities and Entertainment

It’s not unusual for all-inclusive resorts to offer activities, but this resort impresses with options. Guests wanting to stay active can take advantage of beach volleyball and soccer, beach yoga, pickleball, ping pong, aqua aerobics, boogie boarding, kayaking, water polo, surf lessons and more. In addition, a massive zip line is in its final testing stage soon to provide guests thrilling birds’ eye views over a protected tropical forest through a stunning treetop canopy.

The resort’s fitness center is a serious workout space with new, state-of-the-art equipment and a good range of free and machine weights. Fitness classes are also offered to guests.

Additionally, the resort offers nighttime performances, and during my stay, the evening entertainment featured an impressive fire show with a multitude of performers bringing oohs and aahs from the audience.

Luxurious Pools and Water Fun

Secrets, along with its Dreams on-site resort offers guests a choice of 13 pools that include infinity pools, water decks, hot tubs, and a unique Preferred Club rooftop pool with stunning views. Pools are heated through the cooler-weather months of November through March.

Even if you’re not staying at the Dreams side of the property, Secrets guests can feel free to adventure to the 18,600-square-foot waterpark which includes a pirate ship, three waterslides, two heated pools and two hot tubs. After all, big kids like to have fun too.

Though the property does front a beach, it is a bit rocky for swimming, though a smoother stretch of sand is just a five-minute walk away.

Impressive Spa Experience

Though many all-inclusive resorts offer spa experiences, Secrets Spa located at Dreams Bahia Mita stands out as a haven for rejuvenating body and facial treatments, soothing hydrotherapy, a selection of massages and pampering salons with 15 multi-functional treatment rooms and four to accommodate couples’ massages.

The hydrotherapy circuit includes saunas, a steam room, a Swiss shower, two hydrotherapy tubs, one recreational pool and a plunge pool. Different however, from other spas I’ve visited at other all-inclusive Mexico resorts, the hydrotherapy circuit was personally guided by a spa therapist to individualize the treatment cycle for each individual participant.

For travelers looking for an adults-only experience that also offers all the amenities of its Dreams sister resort, Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort more than meets the bill.
