Add a new all-inclusive resort to the Dominican Republic's booming Punta Cana resort region. Excellence Group Luxury Hotels & Resorts will build Excellence Del Carmen, a 452-room luxury resort in Playas de Uvero Alto, Punta Cana, with opening scheduled for September 2016.
Company officials joined Danilo Medina, the country's president, and Francisco Garcia, the tourism minister, at the $100 million resort's ground-breaking ceremony last week. The all-suites property will be the company's second in the Dominican Republic.
Finished in contemporary Caribbean style, the resort is slated to feature 11 restaurants with international cuisine, 15 bars, 20 swimming pools, a spa and fitness center, among other amenities and facilities.
The Dominican Republic "has been an extremely successful location for our all-adult, all-suites luxury all-inclusive brand," said Domingo Aznar, vice president of sales and marketing for Excellence Group Luxury Hotels & Resorts. "We look forward to a great response from tourists who will come to experience our unique and upscale offering."
While Dominican Republic tourism officials have launched initiatives to expand tourism in other regions of the country, Punta Cana remains the epicenter of the Caribbean's growing collection of deluxe all-inclusive resorts, with more than 55,000 hotel rooms in the region.
The Dominican Republic is headed for another record year in tourist arrivals, with 2,378,348 overnight travelers between January and May of this year according to Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) data. The total leads all CTO-tracked destinations and represents a 6.8 percent increase over 2014.
