Switzerland's first capsule hotel opened yesterday on November 5th, and it's called Capsule Hotel Lucerne.
While capsule hotels may be a Japanese concept, Europe has been interested in this cost-effective accommodation since Belgium opened the first one with Antwerp Student Hostel in 2014.
Capsule Hotel Lucerne is located on the fifth floor of the Hirschengraben Coworking and Innovations Space, a popular spot for tourists, business travelers, creatives, and digital nomads.
This Swiss capsule property offers self-contained pods with automated check-in and check-out processes.
All capsules can be closed and locked for privacy, and offer Wi-Fi, electricity, safes, air-conditioning, sockets, and USB charging stations. Upgrades can include a TV in the capsule, room to stand, or a window.
Travelers will have access to a communal kitchen, common area, and showers.
The capsules can be booked for about $48 per night.
With a location in the center of the city and a space-like theme, it's sure to attract travelers exploring Switzerland on a limited budget.
