The green-friendly folks over at Forever Resorts noticed that an alarming amount of Americans were working on vacation and decided to do something about it.
The plan?
To offer houseboat trips at Cottonwood Cove Resort and Marina or Callville Bay Resort and Marina in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, in hopes that more people would enjoy the scenery and less people would plug into their assortment of electronic devices.
"A recent study by HarrisInteractive showed a staggering 61 percent of Americans plan to work during vacation this year," said Darla Cook, vice president of public relations and events, Forever Resorts. "That's up from 52 percent found in a similar survey last year and 46 percent in 2011. We're hoping to help reverse this trend and give people the motivation they need to turn off their devices and spend time appreciating nature and each other's company. Houseboats are an ideal place to do both."
Forever Resorts is dubbing it a #digitalvacation, and it will be available throughout 2014.
The company-based in Scottsdale, with locations worldwide-is calling the houseboats "a perfect base for family vacations, multi-generational gatherings, reunions and getaways for groups of friends."
Forever Resorts houseboats have all that you could want-except, of course, electronics.
Each houseboat includes the basics (spacious living area, complete kitchen, dining area), but it also features top-deck sun canopies, private staterooms, swimming platforms, waterslides and outdoor barbecue grills. Boats sleep eight to 12 passengers.
On top of that, you get an upper-deck hot tub if you book the largest Forever Resorts houseboat models. Add the fact that you can rent ski boats, wakeboards, fishing boats and personal watercraft, and vacationers have everything they need to enjoy the great outdoors.
Heck, guests even participate in an "unplugging ceremony" once reaching their Forever Resorts destination. During the ceremony, guests turn off all of their devices at the same time and put them in a special lock box. Then, one member of the group is designated as the "key master," keeping everyone's possessions for the remainder of the trip.
Got an important phone call from headquarters?
It can wait. You are having too much fun enjoying, you know, that foreign thing called nature.
