Several months after a massive fire caused significant damage, Iberostar Hotels and Resorts' Iberostar Tucan and Iberostar Quetzal resorts in Playa del Carmen, Mexico have reopened.
But the two five-star all-inclusive resorts aren't just back welcoming guests. The Spanish hotel chain turned the setback into an opportunity, funding a remodel that's resulted in several improvements at the two luxury hotels.
For example, the two new lobbies, which have been completely redesigned, boast expanded terrace areas and some of the resorts' decor has been upgraded around the pool and playground areas.

Renovations were also made to the spas, which were damanged in last year's fire. Guests will also notice some changes at the fitness centers.
Other notable enhancements include an ice cream parlor guests can access from the beach and a comfortable cigar lounge. New restuarants have also been added. In addition to a steakhouse, guests can choose from Mexican, Italian, Japanese and Mediterranean.
The two resorts were originally expected to be closed down for two months following the fire, which broke out on Oct. 10, 2015 and destroyed portions of the hotels' common areas including restaurants, the spa, theater, lobby and reception area.
While the fire did not affect guestrooms at the hotels, approximately 1,600 guests were evacuated at the time. Fortunately, no deaths or serious injuries were reported.
Right now, travelers can book a standard room at either the Iberostar Tucan or Iberostar Quetzal for as little as $128 per person per night.
