WalletHub has released its 2018 Hotel Rewards Report, which ranks the top loyalty programs from brands around the world based on a variety of metrics. The report can assist travelers when they choose a program to join and even help them make choices on which brands to select in a destination based on the perks they could expect to receive when joining a rewards program.
WalletHub studied the 10 largest U.S. hotel chains' rewards programs. Analysts looked at 21 key metrics, including the average value of a point, point expiration policies and the volatility of award-night pricing.
Here are the top 10 rewards programs as ranked by WalletHub:
Wyndham Rewards
Best Western Rewards
Radisson Rewards
Marriott Rewards
Choice Privileges
World of Hyatt
Hilton Honors
La Quinta Returns
Drury Gold Key Club
IHG Rewards Club
This is the fourth year that Wyndham has topped the list with the best hotel loyalty program, proving it once again provides great value to its consumers. However, each hotel rewards program offers different advantages to different types of travelers.
For example, one of the advantages of Best Western is that its rewards points don't expire so if you travel frequently one year and not the next, you are still able to keep points while you are not actively traveling.
Marriott stands out this year after its merger with SPG. The combination of three rewards programs, Marriott, SPG, and Ritz-Carlton, yields $10.85 per $100 spent, finds WalletHub, more than any of the three brands on its own in 2017.
