Weekend Getaways: Labor Day Deals

Labor Day isn't the best time to score hotel deals, unless one does some intensive research first. Hotel inventory is limited and demand is still strong, which means even city-center markets that have long been vestiges for discounts on long holiday weekends might not be as reliably discounted as in the past. We've included some good finds below:

Discounted rates and F&B Credit at The Roxy Hotel

DealsPlus tells us that rates in New York City are up to 9 percent lower over Labor Day weekend and there are some deals to be had in the city. The Roxy Hotel in Tribeca is offering The Roxy Weekender package, which offers discounted rates and a $50 F&B credit which can be used for the hotel's sumptuous Sunday Brunch, which includes live music and complimentary film screenings for the ultimate in languid holiday weekend day drinking. The hotel is peculiarly rich in bars and lounges, with several options with and without live music to choose from-there's hardly any reason to leave the hotel.

Long weekends are a great excuse to book those hotel packages that have minimum stay requirements. For those looking to escape to Puerto Rico, the historic Condado Vanderbilt is offering an Early Fall Getaway Package, which includes 20 percent off the room rate, 20 percent off dinner at their signature restaurant, and 20 percent off a spa treatment.

A quick check of availability found this package still available for Labor Day Weekend travel dates. Suites, which include 24 hour butler service, are also available for booking with this promotion.

Score a cabana reservation at The St. Anthony

What better way to spend a long weekend than in a poolside cabana with a bottle of champagne? The St. Anthony, a Luxury Collection Hotel in San Antonio offers cabanas at their rooftop pool on a first-come-first-served basis. However, guests booking the Pool Cabana package can reserve one of the coveted spots for their use during their stay. The hotel also throws in a bottle of champagne from the pool bar and daily breakfast.

Just blocks from the Alamo and the San Antonio Riverwalk, the newly-renovated hotel houses Rebelle, an ultra-chic dining establishment, and Haunt Lounge, which pays homages to the hotel's resident ghosts.

Taste New Orleans at The Roosevelt Hotel

It's still summer-hot in The Big Easy over Labor Day weekend, but the culinary scene in New Orleans has never been hotter. Through Sept. 15, guests booking the Taste of New Orleans rate at The Roosevelt, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, will enjoy a 20 percent discount for themselves and up to five guests at John Besh restaurants, including the hotel's own Domenica. Other participating restaurants include August, Luke, La Provence, Borgne, Johnny Sanchez, Willa Jean, and Pizza Domenica. In addition to the restaurants, guests booking the rate will also enjoy the same discount in the hotel's outlets, including the spa. Hospitality enthusiasts will recognize the hotel as the inspiration for the novel Hotel, by Arthur Hailey, who lived in the hotel for two months in 1964.
