Chicago's The Langham is America's best luxury hotel for 2017, according to U.S. News & World Report.
The digital news and information company revealed its 2017 best hotel rankings Thursday, recognizing the most elite four-star and higher properties across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean based on awards, guest reviews and expert opinions.
Trailing The Langham for the title of best hotel in the U.S. this year are Hawaii's Four Seasons Resort, Hualalai, Washington, D.C.'s The Jefferson, Montage Kapalua Bay in Lahaina, Hawaii and Georgia's The Lodge at Sea Island.
While neither New York City, Las Vegas nor Los Angeles are represented among the top 10 hotels in the U.S. this year, they still finished as the top cities for Gold badge winners, the award given to the top 10 percent of ranked hotels by U.S. News.
New York boasts 23 Gold badge winners out of 202 ranked hotels, Vegas has 11 Gold badge winners out of 46 ranked hotels and L.A. landed a total of 10 Gold badge winners out of 79 ranked hotels.
Meanwhile, Los Cabos dominated in the Mexico category, with three properties finishing in the top five for 2017, led by One&Only Palmilla, Los Cabos and the nearby Las Ventanas al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort. Playa del Carmen's Rosewood Mayakoba scored third for Riviera Maya, edging out Cabo San Lucas' The Resort at Pedregal and La Casa Que Canta in Zihuatanejo.
In Canada, the Ritz-Carlton, Montreal secured the top spot, beating out runner-up Rosewood Hotel Georgia in Vancouver. Vancouver's Shangri-La Hotel finished third ahead of The Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino and the Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto.
The latter hotel makes a somewhat surprising appearance in the top five given Donald Trump's tumultuous ascension to the U.S. presidency.
