The world's largest hotel company announced this week that it's taken over a New York icon that now becomes the signature hotel of its higher-end brand.
Wyndham Hotel Group has added the New Yorker Hotel to its upper-scale Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand.
The 1,083-room Wyndham New Yorker Hotel becomes the largest property in the brand's portfolio of 170 hotels worldwide.
The addition of the New Yorker, located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan at Eighth Avenue and 34th Street, is a significant milestone in Wyndham Hotel Group's strategy to take Wyndham to the biggest cities in the world.
In the past 18 months, the brand's footprint has expanded to city-center locations in major markets including Boston, San Diego and Philadelphia in the U.S.; Istanbul; Berlin and Salzburg, Austria, in Europe; and Cusco, Peru, and Guayaquil, Ecuador, in Latin America, among others.
Owned by New Yorker Hotel Management Company, Inc., the 40-story hotel becomes the fourth Wyndham hotel in New York City's Manhattan Borough, joining Wyndham Midtown 45, Wyndham Garden Chinatown and Wyndham Garden Manhattan Chelsea West.
After previously undergoing over $100 million in renovations, a new multi-million dollar renovation is currently underway at the historic hotel to upgrade all guest rooms, public spaces and meeting facilities.
Hotel features include free wireless internet access throughout the property, a business center, a fitness center, concierge services and valet laundry service. The hotel is situated within 15 miles of the area's three international airports.
Currently, the property's 25,000 square feet of meeting and event space is comprised of 14 conference rooms and two large ballrooms that cater to functions ranging from 10 to 600 attendees. Upon completion of renovations, meeting and event space will increase to over 30,000 square feet. Guests hosting events at Wyndham New Yorker Hotel have access to state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment and services, personalized catering and an on-site, dedicated events team.
Newly renovated guest rooms feature panoramic views of New York City, flat-screen televisions and art deco-style décor. The hotel offers two on-site dining locations: Cooper's Tavern, which serves fresh American cuisine at lunch and dinner, and the 24-hour Tick Tock Diner featuring classing American dishes.
INSIDER TIPS: I recently stayed there during my trip to the New York Times Travel Show and can attest that the changes are significant since my last stay six years ago, restoring the majesty and luster of the iconic hotel.
I ate at both dining locations while in the city and would highly recommend the chicken parmagiana at Cooper's. The burger at Tick Tock Diner was among the best I've eaten and the service was impeccable at all hours of the day.
