Fire Breaks Out at Saddlebrook Resort Near Tampa

On Thursday, a fire broke out in the early morning hours at the Saddlebrook Resort near Tampa, Florida, but the 40 guests inside the building managed to escape safely.

According to The Associated Press, Pasco County spokesman Doug Tobin issued a statement saying the fire started in a 16-unit, two-story building at the Saddlebrook Resort at around 2:30 a.m. local time.

Among those staying in the resort, 28 were students (between grades 8 and 12) training to be tennis and golf professionals. One of the students smelled smoke and alerted the authorities to the fire.

Bay News 9 s reporting the fire broke out in the middle of the building and quickly spread, with the structure sustaining extensive damage. The blaze was brought under control by fireman after an extended battle with the flames.

Investigators did not reveal the cause of the fire and no further details were made available.
