For travelers along the East Coast, Winter Storm Niko is expected to bring heavy snow and travel headaches along the Interstate 95 Northeast corridor beginning Wednesday night and carrying through Thursday.

According to Weather.com, meteorologists are expecting some areas in the Northeast to see six inches of snow or more in a short time period, and flight delays are expected in major cities including Boston, New York City and Philadelphia.

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings for all of southern New England, eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, northern Delaware and northern Maryland. Winter storm watches have been issued for southern New Hampshire, coastal Maine and eastern West Virginia.

For those scheduled to fly to or from one of the impacted cities, several airlines have issued travel alerts. Major carriers like American Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines and JetBlue have announced passengers will be able to change their scheduled flight date and time without any fees.

In addition, rail services like Amtrak have not changed any of their scheduled rides as of Wednesday morning, but travelers are being advised to call ahead to ensure their scheduled departure times haven't been pushed back or canceled altogether.

Roads and highways along the Interstate 95 Northeast corridor are also expected to be treacherous, so travelers should allow themselves more time and drive more slowly to ensure they get to their destinations safe.
