The Hawaiian island of Maui and some areas of the Big Island have been devastated by wildfires that were exacerbated by strong wind gusts brought on by Hurricane Dora this week.

At least 36 people have died, local hospitals have been overwhelmed with badly burned victims, homes, businesses and cultural buildings have been destroyed and evacuations of residents and tourists continue.

While non-essential travel to the popular tourist destination is highly discouraged at this time as officials and first responders work to provide aid for the local communities, travelers can help from afar by donating what money they can and sharing the many ways to do so with their family, friends and followers on social media.

Nonprofit organization Aina Momona is one such option for those who want to help. The group has started a fundraiser to support disaster relief in Maui.

"All the funds raised will be given to the Hawaii Community Foundation Maui County Strong Fund to support disaster relief on Maui," Aina Momona shared, along with several other ways to help victims.

You can also use Pledge to donate to multiple nonprofits, including the American Red Cross, Maui Food Bank and the aforementioned Hawaii Community Foundation.

Meanwhile, GoFundMe has launched a centralized hub including all verified fundraisers related to the Maui wildfires. The company's Trust & Safety team will continue to update the hub with more fundraisers as they are verified.

Maui and the Hawaiian Islands is an iconic destination beloved for its unparalleled natural beauty, culture and friendly people and now it desperately needs help.
