A married man in India was arrested for allegedly setting up a fake airplane hijacking plot in order to avoid going on a trip with his mistress.

According to news.com.au, 32-year-old Motaparthi Vamshi Krishna was arrested last Thursday after he reportedly emailed police in Mumbai under a fake name and said he overheard a group of men plotting hijackings in the cities of Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai.

The Hyderabad City Police Department released a statement on Facebook that said security at all three airports was increased due to the threats. Authorities then tracked down the IP address of the computer the email was sent from and arrested Krishna.

While in custody, Krishna admitted to orchestrating the fake hijacking plot to avoid traveling to Mumbai and Goa with his online girlfriend. He couldn't afford to take her, so he wanted to make it look like the airline canceled the flight in order to avoid a confrontation with his mistress.

After creating a fake ticket and sending it to his girlfriend, he then sent the hoax email to police.

"He didn't have the money, but if he canceled because of that, it would have hurt his pride, and his friendship with the girl would've come to an end," Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner of Police B. Limba Reddy said at a press conference.

"So, his thinking was that if the flight was to be canceled and it was because of the airport, he wouldn't be at fault."

Krishna was officially arrested on four charges, including impersonation and providing false information. The charges could land him in jail for up to five years and carry a fine of around $115.

News outlets report Krishna is married and has a child, (and now has plenty of explaining to do).
