A young man who pretended to be a Cathay Pacific pilot was detained in Malaysia after reportedly ordering an alcoholic beverage during a flight from Hong Kong.
According to the Hong Kong Standard, a man between 18-20 years old, whose name has not been released to the media, boarded Dragonair Flight KA691 from Hong Kong to Penang, Malaysia, in March using a forged Cathay Pacific identification.
The man told the flight crew that he was currently working for Cathay Pacific-Dragonair is a subsidiary of Cathay Pacific-and was en route back home following a long-haul flight from San Francisco to Hong Kong.
Crew members became suspicious of the man when he began taking pictures during the flight and then ordered a Bloody Mary. When asked for identification, the man claimed it was in his baggage. Once the plane landed, he still couldn't produce the ID needed, and the flight crew contacted security who took him into custody.
The fake pilot was not allowed to enter Malaysia and was sent back to Hong Kong. Police in Hong Kong have received the formal incident report, but no arrest has been made. Reports suggest that crew members felt the man had tried to pull a similar trick before, though.
