Please refrain from getting obliterated on alcohol and leaping from bridges if within the pleasant and lovely confines of Venice. At least, that's the call from officials who are rather peeved when a tourist performed the above scenario recently, jumping from Rialto Bridge

Fox News reports that this, however, is no laughing matter. The man identified as a tourist from New Zealand was purportedly inebriated when he decided to take a short dive from the ledge of the bridge.

To make matters worse, the man never hit water but instead managed to harm a person just trying to maneuver Venetian waters without any falling tourists ruining the day.

The report states: "Instead of hitting the water, he landed on a water taxi passing under the bridge, smashing the boat's windshield, scattering glass and injuring the driver as well as himself."

Fox News cites a statement from mayor Luigi Brugnaro who is understandably upset about tourists disrespecting the city in a way that is potentially dangerous.

The tweets states, via the report: "I insist on [introducing] special powers to the city to uphold public order. Pickpockets, vandals, drunks! A night in the cells."

As for the anonymous man, the report states that his tumble from the bridge, which is about 24 feet above the water at its arch, proved rather disastrous. While few details were released, reports stated that he was in "serious but stable condition" after suffering injuries that included, according to Fox News, "fractures and severe trauma."

Besides one heck of a hangover, the tourist may also have to face the long arm of Venetian law in the form of charges for what is being called "endangering public transport."

This story is more than a warning of how not to act when traveling abroad. Really, it serves as a reminder that you never want to plunge into Venetian waters.

At worse you come away with injuries and a possible stay in jail. At best you are swimming in filth.
