The U.S. Embassy in London issued an alert
Friday urging Americans to “exercise increased caution” when visiting Jewish
and American sites in the U.K.
and across Europe
amid a recent uptick in threats.
"The U.S.
Embassy in London notes recent attacks and
threats targeting Jewish and American institutions in the United
Kingdom and Europe," the alert said, according to Fox
News. "U.S. citizens, particularly
those visiting institutions serving Jewish or American
interests, should remain alert and exercise increased caution."
The warning comes
after several antisemitic attacks, including an arson strike on ambulances tied
to a Jewish charity in London on March 23, an April 18 incident at a synagogue
in the city’s Kenton area and an explosion at a Jewish school in Amsterdam. No
one was hurt in the school attack, but the structure itself was damaged. Officials
called it a "targeted attack against the Jewish community."
Authorities in
the U.K. are looking into whether “thugs for hire”, potentially with backing
from Iran, are behind the incidents in London, according to reports.
In the meantime,
the embassy is telling U.S. travelers to remain alert—not just at specific
sites but also in busy areas like tourist hotspots, expat neighborhoods and
places of worship. It’s also a good idea to check local news and have a general
safety plan in place.
Travelers can also
sign up for the State Department’s Safe Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP),
which sends alerts and helps officials contact you if something happens.
