French robbers stole 25,000 euros ($28,300) and a Rolex watch from a Chinese tourist guide outside of Paris on Sunday, the AFP reported.
A group of Chinese tourists were exiting a coach bus in Carrieres-sur-Seine when three thieves allegedly attempted to steal a pair of handbags from two of the foreign women. At that point, the guide intervened and was subsequently targeted.
The three unidentified men grabbed the guide's bag containing €20,000 ($22,590) and nearly 5,000 Swiss francs ($5,080). The man's stolen watch was valued at approximately 5,000 euros ($5,650).
The robbers reportedly fled the scene by car.
"The guide had wanted to help two Chinese tourists targeted by three thieves who tried to take their Longchamp handbags," a police source told AFP "The guide intervened and in the end it was him who was stripped of his possessions."
Unfortunately, the incident isn't the first involving tourists in the area. Previous robberies have occurred near the Palace of Versailles, a popular tourist destination outside of Paris. Thieves have targeted these and other tourist areas in the hopes that travelers will be carrying large sums of cash.
Authorities are currently investigating whether this latest robbery is connected to previous ones.
The incident comes just weeks after French police detained two men believed to have stolen safes from a dozen luxury hotel rooms in France.
