With Donald Trump poised to become the 45th president of the United States, based on CNN projections, social media exploded late Tuesday and early Wednesday with reaction, including from those within the travel industry.
Trump has emerged as a polarizing figure within the industry since beginning his run for the White House more than a year ago. While his call to improve U.S. airport infrastructure has been applauded by many, other policy proposals including building a wall between the U.S. and Mexico and a potential Muslim ban have others concerned.
U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow isn't among that group, though. Dow congratulated Trump in a statement Wednesday and expressed optimism for the future.
But as ABC7 pointed out, many were at least considering the idea of leaving the U.S., with a website instructing people on how to apply for Canadian citizenship actually crashing.
Like those seeking an exit from the U.S., much of travel Twitter expressed frustration at the result.
Famous traveler and TV host Andrew Zimmern also weighed in on the election, calling it a "sad night."
Royal Jordanian even went so far as to take a shot at Trump.
Others within the travel industry appeared excited at the prospect of a Trump presidency, though.
Amid the surprising results it became clear to many that travel may be the answer to one of the most divisive election cycles of all time.
