Over the weekend, police say an Uber driver was robbed in Florida by a man who got into his car and threatened to stab him with an HIV-infected needle.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, authorities in Boca Raton, Florida, announced that 30-year-old Matthew Steven Francis allegedly opened the unlocked passenger-side door of Uber driver Sebastian Lora's vehicle at around 11 p.m. local time on Saturday night.
Lora was waiting at a convenience store for his customer to finish shopping.
Francis pulled out a syringe and threatened to inject Lora with HIV if he didn't start driving. After driving around Boca Raton for a short time, Francis forced Lora to pull the car over and told him to hand over his phone and wallet.
After Lora surrendered his possessions, Francis exited the car and ran away. A short time later, police officers found the alleged robber walking the street near where the incident occurred with a syringe in one pocket and Lora's wallet in his other pocket.
Following his arrest, Francis was taken to a hospital for an evaluation and then booked into jail on charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, kidnapping and attempted criminal transmission of HIV, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
