Photography goes hand in hand with travel, spotlighting some of the most captivating destinations on the planet.
This is even more apparent than ever before these days, with photo-based social media platforms such as Instagram exploding.
In light of this, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts recently commissioned an infographic called "A World Through a Lens" that gives photography tips for both the camera and the smartphone, as well as providing Instagram tips and highlighting some of the world's most popular photography destinations.
The infographic includes photography advice from notable photographers and Instagram experts, covering a variety of natural settings and times of the day, including beaches, sunset, landscapes and nighttime.
Advice includes: look for reflections in the water at the beach, create a silhouette during sunset, use the Slow Shutter Cam app to take long exposure shots of landscapes, use a narrow aperture with a standard camera to create a "starburst" effect on street lights and shoot early in the morning or when the sun sets, among other things.
Travel photographer and Instagram pro Kirsten Alana also offers up some Instagram wisdom, such as don't share every picture you take (only share your best images), don't over-edit photos, take full advantage of the ability to now customize the vibrancy of your filters (fade colors from full strength if appropriate) and tap into popular apps to maximize editing control.
According to Alana, the most liked Instagram filters right now are Willow, Valencia and Sierra. The most popular hashtag on Instagram is-interestingly enough-#nofilter.
The infographic also highlights some of the top photography hotspots in the world. Major photographic destinations include Kauna'oa Bay on Hawaii Island (for beach shots), Parliament Hill in London (sunsets), Lake Louise in Canada's Banff National Park (lakes), Park Guell in Barcelona (architecture), Fairmont Chateau Frontenac in Quebec (hotels), Abbey Road in London (roads), the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco (bridges), the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China (wonders of the world), the Pyramids of Giza in Cairo (ancient ruins), and Shanghai and Dubai for nighttime shots.
