Amazon.com announced an expanded partnership with travel
booking website Priceline to offer deals during Amazon Day, marking the first
time an online travel agency participated in the shopping event.
According to Reuters.com,
Amazon Prime members will receive an additional 20 percent off Priceline’s
Hotel Express deals, which already boasts savings of 60 percent off hotels,
through July 12.
Amazon revealed that Priceline is the first travel brand to
offer an exclusive U.S. Prime Day deal, as the online retailer is looking to
broaden offerings and hotels working to fill empty hotel rooms.
“We want to meet customers where they are,” Priceline senior
vice president of marketing said Lesley Klein told Reuters. “We know travelers
are shopping on Amazon and booking travel with Priceline.”
The partnership comes after new data suggested the short-term
rental market in the United States fell sharply through the first six
months of 2023. According to data specialist Key Data, Revenue per Available
Rental (RevPAR) in the U.S. declined by 3.3 percent to $89 in the first half of
the year, while Average Daily Rates (ADRs) dropped by 2.3 percent to $260.
Priceline’s parent company, Booking Holdings, has previously
worked with Amazon, offering Prime members in Germany and Austria travel
discounts through next year. The online retailer also once built a hotel
booking service, but it closed a few months after launch.
