One of the travel industry’s leading providers of technology solutions is strengthening its global footprint and consistently growing across all business units.
Amadeus, which serves a vast range of customers including airlines, hotels, travel agencies and travel buyers such as corporations and travel management companies, reported adjusted profits of about $1.3 million for the 2017 calendar year. These numbers represent growth of 22.5 percent compared to 2016.
Amadeus’ growth last year included achieving various important milestones in its Airline IT segment, including signing important deals with leading carriers such as Air Canada. Those deals also contributed to the company’s continued geographic diversification.
“In fact, last year 57.7 percent of our passengers boarded were generated outside of Europe compared to 54.1 percent in 2016,” company President and CEO, Luis Maroto, said in a statement.
Notable growth was also witnessed in Amadeus’ Distribution segment, Maroto added. Travel agency air bookings grew across all regions, increasing 6.3% to 568.4 million. The Asia Pacific was one of the best-performing regions for the company, showing an 11.4 percent increase, followed by Latin America, with a 10 percent increase.
“As for our new businesses, they continued to progress well,” said Maroto. “Premier Inn signed up for the two key capabilities (CRS and PMS) of our Hospitality Platform in November. Our Airport IT customer base grew with agreements with airports around the world, from Australia to France, the US and the CIS region.”
During 2017, Amadeus signed 55 new contracts or renewals of content agreements with airlines, including TUI fly, Air Canada, Westjet Airlines, Korean Air, Delta Airlines, Avianca Argentina and several low-cost carriers (LCC).

Subscribers to Amadeus’ inventory can now access more than 110 LCC and hybrid carriers’ content worldwide. The company reported that LCC and hybrid carriers’ bookings grew 9 percent in 2017 compared to the previous year.
Amadeus portfolio of airport IT customers also expanded in 2017. Notable highlights in this business segment include a new agreement between Amadeus and Hong Kong International Airport that will involve deployment of the world’s first movable check-in kiosks.
The kiosks can be located anywhere within the airport or moved off-site, allowing check-in to be done at train platforms, hotels or any other location. Powered by Amadeus, the kiosks can be rapidly deployed and relocated.
