Walking the Great Wall of China

If the Great Wall of China isn’t on your bucket list, it should be.
Not only do stretches of the Wall pass through some of China’s most beautiful countryside, but it provides you with a deeper understanding of China’s history and the majesty of one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
For those who prefer smaller guided tours taken at a leisurely pace, Exodus Travels’ Walking the Great Wall tour is ideal. Grab some friends or go it alone. Either way, this 9-day walking tour is the perfect way to check one more box on your travel wish list.
The journey begins with an overnight in Beijing before transferring to Jiankou, where the real fun starts. Spend the day hiking one of the best-preserved sections of the wall, past 22 watchtowers as you make your way to Mutianyu before returning to Jiankou for an overnight.
The next day brings a morning hike along one of the wall’s steeper and less maintained areas, but what you lose in level terrain you more than makeup for with stunning scenery. You’ll travel to Gubeikou for the night and awake refreshed and ready to explore the section of the wall known as the Great Wall of Crouching Tiger. Day 5 of your adventure is more rigorous, and you’ll tackle some steep hills as you hike past traditional Chinese villages on your way to Jinshanling.
The final day of hiking takes you past more watchtowers, along a steep stretch of wall, but the views make the climb worth it. That afternoon, it’s back to Beijing with a stop-over at the Summer Palace.

The final two days of your tour are spent exploring the vibrant city of Beijing, where you will visit traditional hutongs, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, and have plenty of free time for exploration before flying back to London or wherever you are headed next.
The tour includes all breakfasts as well as five lunch and dinners; accommodations; transport and listed activities; arrival and departure transfers; and flights to London depending on their booking. Clients will need to arrange for a Chinese visa at their own expense.
