Bowman’s Travel Brief: Planning for the Summer

It’s never too early to plan for the summer vacation.
As we navigate through the thick of spring break, it’s time to start thinking about summer plans if you haven’t begun to do so.
Some of you may have already booked your summer travel plans during the winter, while other savvy travelers set their plans after their trip last summer.
If that’s the case, I’d urge you to double check those plans and kick start the extended research for how you want to maximize the most out of your trip.
If you’ve yet to book for summer, don’t fret. There are still plenty of deals to be had and speaking with your travel agent is the best way to ensure you’re getting a quality deal for your summer vacation.
Don’t have a travel agent? No sweat. TravelPulse has tools to help you find one as well as what to expect when working with one for the first time.
For those that have a regular summer travel routine, have you considered mixing it up? Or perhaps adding an additional getaway to try something new this year?
Growing up, my summer vacation included trips to see family and a trip to the theme parks in Orlando or my home state of Georgia.
As I’m currently on a cruise, I look back and wonder how things would have been different if we ventured on a cruise getaway during the summer for a change of pace.
It’s easy to ponder on what might have been, but I still wouldn’t change how I traveled in the summer during my youth.
With summer drawing near, what are your plans? Don’t wait too late to discuss plans of action and again, consider using a travel agent if you’re still in search of that ideal summer getaway.

Advice from an Agent
Susie Chau is the owner of Carpe Diem Traveler based in Chicago. She can be reached at susie@carpediemtraveler.com
When asked what advice she would give travelers planning a vacation, Chau said:
“Take it slow. It's highly likely that wherever you are going will be hot and crowded, so don't stress yourself out by trying to squeeze too much into each day. Do not feel obligated to check off all the must-see attractions if they don't appeal to you. I encourage you to have at least one vacation day where you have nothing scheduled. It's often in the unplanned moments that the real magic of travel happens.”
As for her advice for travel agents selling summer vacation to their clients, Chau said:
“Set expectations up front about availability and pricing with your clients that want to go to destinations that are in peak season. Ask clarifying questions to understand your clients' priorities, the experiences they want, and their budget. Their dreams may be better achieved by a destination they aren't asking for, especially if they are price sensitive.”
