Luxury travel has taken on a wider meaning these days.
With an expansion of offerings, the phrase ‘luxury travel’ is even more so subjective to the individual.
Luxury travel for the average American is going to of course be different from luxury travel for the ultra-rich.
Some say it's one-sided and crystal clear whether a place fits into the luxury space or not.
I disagree and say there are levels to it.
Last week, I got a tremendous firsthand taste of that in the Dominican Republic during our latest TravFORUM series. We were immersed in three different luxury properties during the week: Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando in Santo Domingo, Casa de Campo in La Romana, and Eden Roc at Cap Cana.
To me, each had its own spin on what defines luxury travel. They were all luxurious in their own way. A hotel in the heart of the Colonial City isn’t going to have some of those same amenities as a resort with its own private beach. It doesn’t mean it wasn’t an elevated hotel experience. The courtyard and the décor took me back in time for a moment. You don’t get that at a beach resort.
However, one traveler may view a stay in an old city as far from luxury travel simply because their idea of luxury travel needs more of a modern design.
Again, it’s all subjective to the individual.
So, what is luxury travel to you?
