The Morningstar Buoy Haus Beach Resort at the U.S. Virgin Islands -based Frenchman’s Reef property opened Thursday, May 18. The 94-room boutique wing of the key St. Thomas resort has been shuttered since 2017 due to damage from hurricanes Irene and Maria.

The entire resort represents the U.S. Virgin Islands’ largest property, and destination and company officials have previously said the property plays a critical role in ensuring airlift to the territory.

The Morningstar Buoy Haus Beach Resort re-opening followings significant delays. Officials at Ambridge Hospitality, the resort’s management firm, had earlier said the resort would return to operation before the end of 2022.

Part of Marriott Bonvoy’s Autograph Collection Hotels group, accommodations at the beachfront Buoy Haus resort include two suites, with a mix of beachfront and oceanside rooms. The property also features direct beach access.

Dining options are highlighted by Buoy Haus’ beachfront Salt Shack Beach Bar & Grill, featuring an “upscale” atmosphere and “unpretentious” vibe with “approachable cuisine, refreshing drinks and attentive service,” according to Marriott officials.

Meanwhile, Sandbar features an oceanfront “beach-and-beverage” experience, wherein guests can sample “island classic” cocktails while watching the sun set over Frenchman’s Reef.

The Tide Pool, Cabanas & Bar deck features pool-side service and private cabanas, where guests can enjoy signature cocktails and light bites. Oceanfront Isla Blue features a “tropical boho chic” ambiance and the restaurant’s Michelin-star executive chef crafts island-inspired Caribbean and Mexico fare.

The Tide Pool also features a seductive bar serving original interpretations of classic cocktails using fresh local fruits and herbs. A temperature-controlled wine room showcased an expansive collection of wines, champagne, and premium sipping tequilas.

The property provides guests with aquatic programming including the complimentary use of non-motorized watersports gear including Hobie Cats, kayaks and assorted beach toys and snorkel gear.

Private vessels sailing from Frenchman’s Reef’s private dock are available for day charters and evening excursions to surrounding islands. The resort’s Flying Frenchman private luxury catamaran carries up to 125 people for daytime snorkel trips and sunset sailings.

Buoy Haus guests will have full access to the amenities at the adjacent, 392-room Westin Beach Resort & Spa at Frenchman’s Reef, scheduled to open in June.

Facilities include a large pool deck with three ocean-view pools, a pool bar and cabanas, plus restaurants and lounges and the Heavenly Spa by Westin. The two resorts, both managed by Aimbridge, will be connected via a shared stretch of Morningstar Beach.
