In the 50 years since Geoffrey Kent founded Abercrombie & Kent, it's safe to say he has been around a good bit. So when A&K releases a statement saying that a new global circumnavigation led by Kent "may be the most remarkable yet," it does deserve attention.
Around the World with Geoffrey Kent by Private Jet: The Tropics to the Arctic is planned for May 1-26, 2016. The tour is being promoted as the brainchild of Kent himself.
The program will use one of A&K's new chartered Icelandair Boeing 757-200ER private jets with 50 fold-out flat seats. The passenger area has an open bar, an on-board chef and a crew that travels with the group for the duration of the trip.
The itinerary will begin in the tropics, visiting Colombia, French Polynesia and the Solomon Islands. It will include Easter Island; the Philippines; the Mongolian steppes; Uzbekistan; St. Petersburg, Russia and will conclude in Greenland.
The private jet makes many things possible that are not possible traveling by conventional commercial aircraft.
"The routes we fly aren't offered by commercial airlines," said Kent. "For us to travel from the Solomon Islands to the Philippines will be a comfortable six-hour direct flight, filled with a gourmet meal, a variety of entertainment and lie-flat seats to relax - compared with commercial flights requiring as many as five connecting flights and taking up to 55 hours of travel time."
