New Flight Routes Taking Off This Fall

Despite travel restrictions and diminished demand for air travel six months into the COVID-19 pandemic, airlines are beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel as more borders reopen and travelers grow more and more comfortable returning to the friendly skies, with many set to launch new routes or resume suspended service this fall. Here are some of the notable new flight options travelers can look forward to in the coming months.

Alaska Airlines will launch a handful of new routes this fall, including daily flights between Los Angeles and Eugene and Medford, Oregon starting October 1. The carrier will also begin service between L.A. and Tampa; Fort Myers, Florida and Bozeman, Montana on November 20. Elsewhere on the West Coast, Alaska will launch four times weekly service between Portland and Fort Lauderdale on November 20 as well as four times weekly service between Seattle and Fort Myers and three times weekly service between San Diego and Fort Lauderdale starting on November 21.

Allegiant will operate twice-weekly flights between Boston and Sarasota, Florida; Phoenix and Santa Maria, California; Palm Springs and Boise, Idaho and Denver and Provo, Utah beginning November 19. On November 20, the carrier will launch twice-weekly service to Punta Gorda, Florida from Houston and Chicago in addition to flights between Palm Springs and Eugene, Oregon. Allegiant's seasonal service between Nashville and Bozeman is scheduled to start on November 21.

American Airlines will resume a plethora of routes from Phoenix this November, including Calgary, Alberta; Billings, Montana; Cleveland; Cincinnati; Nashville; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Raleigh, North Carolina and Pittsburgh. American will also launch a once-weekly service between Miami and Dayton, Ohio; Lexington, Kentucky; Portland, Maine; Rochester, New York and Milwaukee beginning November 7, three days after starting daily service between Boston and Indianapolis and two daily flights between Austin and Boston on November 4. Other routes coming in November include Boston-Raleigh; Charlotte-Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Austin-San Jose, California.

Delta Air Lines will resume service to several major business and leisure markets this fall. Notable routes returning this September include Atlanta-Lagos; Boston-London; New York-Accra; New York-Barcelona; New York-Madrid and New York-Rome. Starting in October, Delta will add the following routes: New York-Brussels; New York-Dublin; New York-Frankfurt; New York-Zurich and Seattle-Paris. United's service between Boston and Paris is scheduled to return in November.

Frontier Airlines will launch daily service between Philadelphia and Phoenix starting November 12. The ultra-low-cost carrier will also increase service between Philadelphia and Atlanta to two times daily in November. Meanwhile, service between Philadelphia and Orlando will increase to five times daily on November 19 before increasing to six times daily in December.

JetBlue will introduce a slew of new routes this fall, including some exciting flights to the Caribbean. The carrier will begin service between New York City and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands on October 1, followed by flights from Newark to Aruba, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, the Dominican Republic and Sint Maarten starting on November 19. New domestic routes launching on October 1 include flights between Fort Lauderdale and Pittsburgh, Portland and Seattle; new service between Orlando and San Francisco; new service between Palm Beach, Florida and Chicago and Pittsburgh; new service between Tampa and Providence, Rhode Island and Washington, D.C. and new service between Fort Myers, Florida and Cleveland and Providence.

Earlier this month, Southwest Airlines announced plans to launch year-round service to Miami International Airport and Palm Springs International Airport by the end of the year. However, the low-cost carrier has yet to publish a flight schedule and service profile for the two new destinations. On November 1, Southwest will begin service between Long Beach and Austin and Phoenix and connect Houston and Ontario, California. Service between Nashville and Orange County, California will start on November 2.

Spirit Airlines will offer nonstop flights from Orange County's John Wayne Airport to Las Vegas and Oakland beginning November 17. "We are excited to bring more low-cost options to our Southern California Guests with new service to John Wayne Airport," Spirit's Vice President of Network Planning John Kirby said in a statement. "Whether it's a quick trip to Las Vegas or to the Bay Area, Los Angeles area residents will love our low fares, signature service and on-time performance."

United Airlines, which operates more nonstop service between the U.S. and Israel than any other domestic carrier, will resume service between Washington, D.C. and Tel Aviv in October. United became the only airline to offer nonstop service between Chicago and Tel Aviv on September 10. United will also resume daily nonstop service to Key West from Chicago and Newark starting on October 1 before launching nonstop service five times weekly between Washington, D.C. and Key West beginning November 6.
