Celebrate National Margarita Day With These 7 Creative Hotel Recipes

National Margarita Day

1/8
February 22 is National Margarita Day and this year it appropriately falls on a Friday. Fortunately, Barcelo Hotel Group and the Hilton Miami Downtown have shared some of their one-of-a-kind margarita recipes so travelers can celebrate the famous tequila-based cocktail year-round whether they're in Mexico, Miami, the Caribbean or at home.

Avocado Margarita, Occidental Cozumel

2/8
The five-star Occidental Cozumel's Avocado Margarita isn't just for hipsters or health nuts. This Mexican delight includes one peeled, pitted and chopped avocado; 3.5 ounces of ice cubes; 3.5 ounces of Tequila Reposado 100 años; 2.5 ounces of triple sec or Cointreau; an ounce of fresh lime juice; a half-ounce of simple syrup; a lime wedge; a pinch of peppermint and salt or chili-lime seasoning for the rim. Blend the ingredients and pour into a glass. Garnish it with a slice of avocado if you're looking to show off.

Mangorita, Allegro Cozumel

3/8
Elsewhere in Cozumel, Barcelo Hotel Group's Allegro Cozumel is serving up a Mangorita that gets its name from, you guessed it, fresh mango (3.5 ounces pitted and cut into cubes). You'll also need 3.5 ounces of Tequila Blanco; 2.5 ounces of triple sec or Cointreau; 3.5 ounces of ice cubes; three ounces of agave syrup; 0.4 ounces of chili-lime seasoning (Tajin) and an ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice. Rim the cup with lemon juice and 0.2 ounces of the seasoning and then pour the remaining ingredients into a blender before serving.

Gondo Margarita, Barcelo Puerto Vallarta

4/8
The star ingredient of Barcelo Puerto Vallarta's Gondo Margarita is the gondo fruit, which is a local berry that grows primarily in the mountains of Puerto Vallarta. The recipe also calls for ice; salt and chili powder (for the rim); 1.5 ounces of Cointreau; 1.5 ounces of Silver Tequila and an ounce of orange juice. Pour the gondo fruit into the cocktail glass and the remaining ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into your glass and garnish with a fresh strawberry.

Julio Watermelon Margarita, Hilton Miami Downtown

5/8
Guests at the Hilton Miami Downtown have fallen in love with the Julio Watermelon Margarita, which relies on two ounces of Don Julio Silver Tequila (my personal favorite); a quarter of an ounce of watermelon liqueur; one cup of crushed fresh watermelon; a half of an ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice and a watermelon slice for garnish. Simply muddle the crushed watermelon and liquor into a cocktail shaker. Add the remaining ingredients and ice and shake before double straining into a chilled martini glass.

Pomegranate Margarita, Occidental Punta Cana

6/8
Occidental Punta Cana's Pomegranate Margarita is another enticing cocktail that's easy to make. You'll need to gather some ice, salt, club soda and a lime wedge as well as four ounces of tequila, two ounces of triple sec, one juiced lime and a half of a cup of pomegranate juice. Afterward, pour the tequila, ice, triple sec, pomegranate juice, and lime juice into a cocktail shaker and shake before pouring into the salt-rimmed glass. Top it off with a splash of club soda and garnish with a lime wedge.

Mamargarita, Barcelo Bavaro Grand Resort

7/8
If you can't get to Punta Cana, at least you can bring the taste of the Dominican Republic to your kitchen with the Mamargarita made famous at Barcelo Bavaro Grand Resort. The key ingredient here is 0.2 ounces of Mamajuana, a drink unique to the region that's made by combining rum, red wine and honey with tree bark and herbs. The taste has been compared to that of Port wine. To complete this one-of-a-kind recipe, you'll also need ice; 1.5 ounces of tequila; half of an ounce of triple sec and a half of an ounce of lemon juice. Fill your cocktail shaker with the ice, tequila, triple sec and lime juice. Then shake and strain over the salt-rimmed glass with ice before garnishing with a lime wedge.

Passion Brize, Royal Hideaway Playacar

8/8
It's a fact that everything tastes better in Playa del Carmen. Still, the Royal Hideaway Playacar's Passion Brize is in a class of its own. This creative cocktail combines ice; 1.5 ounces of Mezcal; 1.5 ounces of passion fruit juice; half an ounce of lime; one tablespoon of sugar; a half an ounce of freshly-squeezed orange juice and star fruit for garnish. You'll also need a cocktail shaker and a Mason jar glass. Shake up the passion fruit juice, lime, sugar and orange juice before adding the Mezcal and ice and then pour into the glass.
