Ranking The World's Most Annoying Travel Habits

Don't Be That Traveler

1/6
Agoda recently set out to determine the most irritating travel habits. The online travel agent polled more than 10,000 travelers from 10 different destinations around the world, including the U.K., the U.S., Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and China to uncover the leading pet peeves.

1. Noise Makers

2/6
Noisy travelers (57 percent) are the most annoying by a significant margin, with unchecked volume topping the list of the most hated travel habits in a majority of destinations around the globe, including the U.S., U.K., Thailand, Singapore, Australia and China.

2. Mobile Device Addicts

3/6
Travelers who constantly have their faces buried in their phones and mobile devices (47 percent) are likely to catch a sneer or two from those around them. The Vietnamese are the most annoyed by this habit (59 percent) while Thai travelers are generally more accepting of people who are glued to their devices (31 percent).

3. Insensitive to Cultural Nuances

4/6
Being insensitive to cultural nuances while traveling (46 percent) ranks a close third behind overusing devices. Travelers who are inconsiderate of the local culture are most likely to annoy in places like Singapore (63 percent), the Philippines (61 percent) and Malaysia (60 percent).

4. Mass Tour Groups

5/6
More than one-third (36 percent) of travelers consider mass tour groups to be a grievance. That said, if you're being loud and on your smartphone, while being accompanied by a large group you're undoubtedly public enemy number one. Interestingly, tolerance for large groups of tourists decreases with age in Thailand and increases with age in Singapore.

5. Selfie Takers

6/6
While snapping a selfie isn't the worst thing you can do on a trip, more than one in five travelers (21 percent) find it to be off-putting. Chinese travelers are the least bothered by selfie-takers (12 percent) while Australians (31 percent) are far more likely to be annoyed.
